BACKGROUND

BACKGROUND

permanent tsb is one of the largest banks in Ireland. It is also one of the most old-school ones. When we started working with them, they were about to release their new and improved online banking site. Their banking app however was based on web views of their old website.

After numerous meetings and calls with both the board and the heads of each department, numerous user research groups and app concepts, we all agreed on a style and design direction. The effort put in this project was great and I couldn't have asked for a better team to do it with.

Since this new design was so different from what they had before and what their customers grew used to, we had to include a short tutorial after login with all the major interaction changes.

Accounts

Accounts

After a lot of back-and-forth, this display of the accounts was voted winner. According to the bank's research, most of their customers had up to 3 accounts so showing them as a list seemed like a reasonable idea. Each account had all the necessary information on the home screen and a shortcut to its specific actions.

Money transfer

Paying bills or transfering money are things you'd expect in a banking app but we were quite confused when we saw they had MobileMoney, a service through which you could send money to anyone as long as you had their phone number.

According to permanent tsb, its customers have grown so close to this simple and convenient feature that they use it more often than they check their accounts.

Account specific actions

Account specific actions

Most accounts had certain actions you could do from them. Besides having them on the home screen, on the account cards, as quicklinks, we put them on top of the individual account screens too.

The Current Account had the most actions, whereas the Credit Card one had none,
due to bank policy.

THE TEAM

THE TEAM

This project started while I was working at Apptivation, a London based agency. The in-house team that worked on this project was made out of an iOS dev, Android dev, back-end dev and 2 designers. The other designer worked on keynote presentations that included the screens that I was working on.

Since the client was in Ireland, the 2 teams would take turns flying back and forth to London and Dublin and when that didn't happen, we'd use Skype to showcase any new creative direction. We held workshops (Design Thinking led) and user testing sessions in the Dublin office.
